Straight away, the Thermaltake Toughram RGB is off to a fantastic start. The combination of quality chips and a pretty robust heatsink equals great performance. At the stock XMP profile of 3600 MHz, it’s very competitive overall. It’s not breaking records everywhere, but it’s matching or beating most other kits at the same speed. This was especially true of the memory bandwidth, which was much higher than anticipated. Of course, that’s not something we’re concerned about, in fact, it’s a very welcome surprise. The latency was very good too, reflecting the good timing and quality of the IC’s used here.
Overclocking went pretty well, with the kit managing to hit a respectable 3800 MHz. Sure, that may not seem much, but keep in mind that even the 3600 MHz speed is technically an overclocked speed and not a guaranteed speed (as is anything over 2666 MHz). The performance was mixed, some results went up, some barely changed at all, but that’s about on par for an overclock like this. Perhaps with some timing tweaks and a bigger CPU overclock, 4000 MHz could be attained, but there are few users who really need to pursue that goal. As it is, the memory gave a fantastic performance at the XMP profile and can be pushed just a wee bit harder if you feel the need.
