The Thermaltake Toughram RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3600 MHz kit is available now. It’s currently listed for just £139.98, which is honestly pretty good value. It’s about £4 cheaper than the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro, and I’d argue it’s about 10x better looking too. The only one with “similar” looks and performance would be the G.Skill TridentZ, and that’s £30 more expensive! So it looks like Toughram has gotten the competition pretty whipped there.
Thermaltake is not the first name you think of when asked about high-performance memory. Of course, why would it be? They’ve only released two memory kits to date, and both fairly recently. The new Thermaltake Toughram RGB is going to change all of that though. It’s winning on all three fronts as far as I’m concerned. It’s very competitive on performance, it’s priced attractively, and it has aesthetics that are as good or better than anything else out there.
I certainly can’t argue with the numbers on this one. While it’s not a world-record-setting kit, it’s more than fast enough for any high-end PC build. It’s certainly all the performance needed for gamers at least. For those building extreme rigs and work stations, I don’t think shiny RGB RAM is really the market you’re shopping in either. Plus, while it didn’t overclock much, it did give us a little performance boost, which basically took no time at all and is free performance, so that’s another win right there.
Thermaltake says that their memory features “tightly-screened memory ICs [to] ensure outstanding performance and tight response times” and the results certainly reflect that. Coupled with a 10-layer PCB, thick aluminium and chrome heatspreaders, and addressable RGB lighting. You’re getting all the premium features the current market has to offer and still beating the competition on price.
I can see these proving to be one of the most popular memory kits of 2019. I know style is subjective, and perhaps not everyone loves the full-RGB configuration either, but you’ll be hard pushed to disagree with me that they look superb. Perhaps TT should do a non-RGB model with a matching chrome top section though? Looks, performance and value abound with the Toughram; highly recommended.
