Poetic justice can be a beautiful thing, especially when someone commits a crime or behaves in an unscrupulous manner. Recently, a thief took advantage of someone sleeping in an internet cafe and quickly ran off with the person’s Samsung Galaxy Note 7 handset. This incident took place in Hefei, the capital of the Anhui province. According to the China Times, the device was recovered by the police in a sorry state. Unbelievably, the handset had set on fire while the thief was making their getaway. As a result, the thief discarded the stolen phone and quickly ran off into the distance. In a bizarre way, the thief actually did the original owner a favour and stopped the device from blowing up next to their face.
Clearly, the thief wasn’t aware of the recent publicity surrounding Samsung’s flagship mobile and widespread recall. Others joked that this was a sophisticated anti-tamper measure designed to prevent thieves from successfully acquiring a handset. While the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 can only be described as a disaster, it’s given such a wonderful story which put a smile on my face. It’s a shame that the thief got away, but the person in question got more than they bargained for.
