Thimbleweed Park Release Confirmed for Nintendo Switch

Thimbleweed Park released earlier this year on the PC to exceptionally positive reviews. Designed by Ron Gilbert (of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion fame) the game revisited in many ways what are considered the classic cornerstones of adventure gaming. Well, it’s good news for Nintendo Switch owners, as Thimbleweed Park is coming to you too!

What is Thimbleweed Park?

Thimbleweed Park is your classic adventure game from the 80’s. Bad graphics, clunky verb based mechanics, and pixel hunting puzzle solving.

Pixel Hunting you ask? That is scouring the screen for 1 particular place to click. 2 of the best examples I can think of are the infamous ‘kick wall’ in Full Throttle and one resulting in Nico bypassing a puzzle by simply flashing her boobies in Broken Sword 2. I’m not making that 2nd one up I promise you, but I think the former was improved and the latter was removed from the remakes. But there’s a picture below just in case you don’t believe me.

Anyway, enough talk of boobies. Back to Thimbleweed Park. The game is a classic puzzle solving the mystery with 5 playable protagonists. It wasn’t perfect, but it did recapture what people loved about classic adventure games. Difficulty, comedy and a rewarding experience. I would rank Thimbleweed Park along with Discworld 1 and 2 and Broken Sword. It is a very decent game. The announcement of the release, from Gamespot, is excellent news for Switch owners.

Why is this coming to the Switch?

The Nintendo Switch, although getting an excellent reception, is struggling for games. We reported on this lack (and the announcement of Wii-U releases) last week.

Adventure games fit quite well into the remit. I must frankly confess that I’m surprised that the Wii-U didn’t see more ‘point and click’ titles, but better late than never I guess.

The Switch might be struggling for titles, but at the same time, we don’t want the shovelware that plagued the original Wii. Getting a quality title like this onto the system is a win-win.

No price has been confirmed, but I would expect it to sell for around £20-£25 and for that price, you are getting a great classic style adventure game.

Check it out. I fully endorse this product!
