Thortech Thunderbolt 1000W Modular Power Supply Unit Review

Looking at the unit in general we can see that Thortech has stuck to a pretty simple design which is a surprise considering it’s bold packaging! Although I am relieved to see it hasn’t got LEDs stuck in it every which way, I was expecting some kind of nice colour scheme or shape. The aesthetics are improved in the Thunderbolt Plus series somewhat, but neither of them are vulgar-looking which means they won’t look out of place in any chassis, but won’t stand out either.
The top of the unit has a standard design with a black wire fan grill and a nice looking logo in the centre. My only minor issue is that I’d liked to have seen them use a small logo sticker rather than a huge ‘Warranty void if tampered or removed’ sticker for aesthetic purposes.
The side uses a nice looking sticker with a semi-gloss finish which makes the dark colour of the sticker look really nice.
The bottom of the unit includes all the required information for installation such as the power table which will be tucked away out of sight after being installed.
There is nothing new on the rear of the unit, just some ventilation, socket and switch.
The front of the unit is very clean, with no labelling. It simply includes a series of sockets for modular cables which are colour coded. It would have been nice to have labelled which connectors run off which 12V rail to aid balancing the rails.
