Thortech Thunderbolt 1000W Modular Power Supply Unit Review

In a cold load test we run the PSU in an open air environment to see what the unit is capable without the limiting factor of heat. We hook the PSU up to our load tester and measure the voltage of the various rails as well as measuring the efficiency.

The results here were quite good, although for the 12V rail to be at such as high voltage at 100% was a little odd! The 12V rails provided a lot higher voltage than was necessary with undervolting on the minor rails. So, the voltage regulation here isn’t the best, which is what I expected from an up and coming brand really. Although it’s not fantastic, the regulation certainly isn’t bad and is no where near the ‘danger zone’ *resists outburst of singing* and is the kind of unit a gamer would want if they needed to power their high-powered rig without spending a fortune on an enthusiast-level PSU which many of the 1kW+ PSUs are at the moment.
