A Closer Look – Interior

There isn’t a whole deal of clarity about Thortech’s choice of OEM for their PSUs. They use different vendors for different wattages and series. As far as we know the Thunderbolt (non-plus) series, including this model, is produced by Sirtec. Sirtec are a PSU company who founded Sirfa, though the two split back in 2008 and Sirfa is now separate and independent. Sirfa also founded a new brand called High Power. It should be noted that Sirtec and Sirfa are not the same and to the best of my research (which mainly uses the opinion of JonnyGuru) Sirtec make this power supply.

The used 135mm fan is made by Globe Fan and uses the product part RL4ZB1352512HH. It uses 11 blades and runs up to a maximum RPM of 1800.

The AC transient filtering done directly from the input socket is handled by two Y capacitors and a single X capacitor.

There is further line filtering on the PCB done by two Y caps, one X cap and a MOV.

The two primary capacitors are a pair of 105 degree rated 400v 470uF Rubycon caps.

Cramming so much power into such a small PSU means things are a little cramped. There is a DC to DC converter design in this unit hidden beneath the clump of wires and black heatsinks.

The majority of filtering capacitors are Nippon Chemi-Con and are all rated for 105 degrees operation which is good to see.
