THQ is to cut 79 full-time jobs at Texas-based, Darksiders 2 developer Vigil Games and a further 39 positions at Vancouver-based Company of Heroes maker Relic Entertainment.
The publisher said the layoffs are the result of just-announced plans to switch Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium from a massively multiplayer online game to a single player and multiplayer title.
THQ said in a statement: “Vigil Games will continue to focus on both this game and the critically-acclaimed new title, Darksiders II, scheduled for release this summer.
“Relic Entertainment continues to focus its development expertise on THQ’s franchises including Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.”
