Intel’s Sandy Bridge line of processors is being fully exploited for all its economic potential before the introduction of Ivy Bridge in the early parts of 2012. The Celeron range is to be boosted with one single core processor and 2 dual core processors. Both these will be below $52 and will provide excellent processor value for the money.
The G440 is a single core processor with 1 core and 1 thread it will sell at a tiny $37 and is clocked at 1.6GHz with 1MB of Intel Smart Cache. It also has integrated graphics running at 650MHz core and 1000MHz shader. The TDP is 35W.
For just $5 more or $42 you can get the G530 processor which is a dual core dual threaded 2.4GHz processor that has integrated graphics clocked at 850MHz core and 1000MHz shader. The TDP of this piece is 75W. This comes equipped with 2MB of Intel Smart Cache. The G540 is identical to these except its CPU core clock is 2.5GHz not 2.4GHz and that tiny upgrade costs you $10 more.
Intel is looking to phase out its LGA 775 socket dual core E3x00 series with its newer more energy efficient and faster 32nm processors.
