When it came to testing this controller the obvious choice was a racing title for my first game, firing up Grid for a little open wheel tournament seemed fitting enough, while I do miss that there is no analogue triggers, I opted to use the right stick as the accelerator and brake to compensate, although I admit this isn’t a style a lot of people are happy with.
But aside from the lack of triggers, the sticks respond really well, the analogue sticks give a clean and smooth transition throughout, the only problem I had with them was the smooth rubber finish means your thumb travels over the surface of the stick when in slow corners.
Next I tried the pad out in-game that demands more varied buttons, Fifa 12, this is where the pad really worked well, by default the game used the third set of back buttons as the start and select keys, it was at this point I noticed there is no face buttons for start and select, although this can be configured in most PC games to provide extra controls.
Gameplay in Fifa was responsive too, all the buttons felt well spaced and not that unlike most mainline console analogue controllers, I was also able to score a goal within the first 1min, not sure if that’s an indication of the controller being good or me having a turn of good luck, because on a whole, I’m rubbish at Fifa.
