A Closer Look

The TH40 comes hard-wired with a gold-plated USB connector, as well as a simple yet very welcome in-line controller.

On the side of the controller, you’ll find a small switch for the microphone mute function, as well as a volume wheel, while the front face has two lighting buttons, one to turn the lights on/off, the other to cycle through the available colours.

The detachable microphone is simple enough and comes with a very flexible and positional boom for ease of use.

Onto the good stuff! The headset looks pretty special, with a mixture of metal finished that give it a premium look and feel, as well as some impressive and unique aesthetics. On the side, you’ll see the ThunderX3 badge, which is styled to appeal to gamers, but it’s not too overbearing that you would feel silly wearing it in a more professional environment.

There’s a slide adjustment to the headband, helping you tailor the fit to suit your needs. It’s just held with friction, but it’s pretty stiff and shouldn’t slip while in use.

Thick padding on the headband is also a welcome touch, and there is a good amount of foam and the black leather-like material which matches up nicely with the matte blacks of the ear cups.

While the top of the headband is stamped with a subtle ThunderX3 logo.

A good amount of soft padding on the ear cups, more than enough to give you long-term comfort while gaming, but also large enough cups to fit fully over and around your ears, blocking a lot of unwanted ambient noise, while keeping headset audio locked in.

On the base of the drivers, you’ll find a small 3.5mm port for the microphone on one side, as well as the hard-wired USB cable on the other.

The rear of each ear cup features a mesh finish and as you’ll see in a moment, this is important for letting through a huge amount of light from the build in LEDs.

The microphone jacks straight into the base, making it nice and easy to configure and with the flexible boom, you can easily find the best position for it and not pick up the sound of your breathing while gaming.
