Ubisoft have announced the launch of its first official competition for its free-to-play PC shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online. The team is working together with the Electronic Sports League, ESL (EU) and North American Electronic Sports League, NESL (US) to deliver the title’s first worldwide competition. Along with the competition, this month players can look forward to the new impressive tier 8 weapons as well as a new player and developer committee, known as the ATHENA Council.
The largest contest in the history of Ghost Recon Online begins on Sunday September 15th at 14:00 UK time and all challengers have until 14:00 UK time Sunday September 15th to register for the first cup, but are free to register at any time for the later cups. Once registered, players can enter a 7-week series of matches, which they can jump into at any time with a new mini cup being awarded each week. Even if they miss the first cup, every victory counts. At the end of the series, the 4 teams who earn the most points will qualify for the continental Final Playoffs (US and EU).
The much anticipated tier 8 weapons will be available in Ghost Recon Online’s upcoming 0.12.4 update, set to be released on September 12th. As the first set of completely new weapons released since entering Open Beta, they provide veterans with new endgame content. From the high-caliber Nemesis 50 sniper rifle to the beastly SPAS-12 semi-auto Shotgun, the tier 8 weapons raise the bar for combat in game.
Community ownership is a pillar of Ghost Recon Online’s identity and the ATHENA Council is the next step in the community’s evolution. All players can apply to join the council, but only a handful will be chosen based on strict criteria and screening. As a platform for communication, this exclusive group will meet regularly with developers to share their perspective as gamers and contribute their feedback on everything from user-interface to game design and beyond.
Register for the competition on the official website here: www.esl.eu/eu/gro/news/227863/
