The Division Receives DX12 Support and a Free Weekend

Ubisoft has just revealed that its online-only open world third-person shooter video game The Division will become free-to-play for a limited time on Uplay PC. The event is set to last from  December 15 at 10AM PST to December 18 at 1PM PST, and it will give players access to all of the game’s main features, including its recent updates. Speaking of updates, Tom Clancy’s The Division has just received complete support for the DirectX 12 API, which definitely sounds like a step in the right direction. However, since this new API is available exclusively for Windows 10 users, some of you might have to switch over to Microsoft’s newest OS in order to be able to test it out.

Players have reported smooth and steady framerates even at higher resolutions using DirectX 12, but the game also received other improvements, including a fix for Xbox controllers that were not working on the PC. It looks like the rare but annoying issue related to fullscreen functionality has also been fixed, and the developers also tweaked the audio positioning. Moreover, those who reported high CPU usage should see some dramatic improvements, and players who have been losing control of their characters briefly will also be glad to know that this problem has been addressed.
