The Tomb Raider franchise has managed to stand the test of time since the early PlayStation 1 days, an achievement in its self, but the series has gone stale and many have lost interest in the adventures of Lara Croft. With the upcoming title Crystal Dynamics is hoping to bring some life back into the series, planned to be a complete re-boot and was originally due for release later this year.
Speaking on the Official Eidos message board, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics Darrell Gallagher confirmed that the studios Tomb Raider title wouldn’t see a release until 2013.
“Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013. We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve.”
The only other news we have on the title at the moment is a single screenshot (see above), but we’ll update you as soon as we have more info, although I expect it may be a while before we hear more about this game.
