I don’t think there are many gamers from the 90’s who either didn’t own or at least play one of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. They were a phenomenon. Between the music and the gameplay, it was one of the most deceptively uncasual, but fun games you could have encountered.
It was a gaming series that turned pro skater Tony Hawk into a superstar. He does, however, have a request of the community. He wants you to stop asking him to remaster the games!
We have of course seen remasters of the Tony Hawk games, even most recently a PC release which was so terrible that Steam pulled it within a few weeks of launch.
Some people, however, would apparently seem to have the assumption that while the games bear his name, that Tony Hawk may have actually created them. Well, sorry to disappoint you, but he didn’t. He is, however, tired of fans of the games asking him to remake them.
In a Twitter post, Mr. Hawk said that he has absolutely no involvement with the games series anymore. With Activision owning the rights, whatever happens with the games is entirely in their hands and given the recent PC release, it’s not a particularly good pair.
Following numerous requests, however, he attempted to want to make it clear that he can neither program, remaster, reboot servers or turn iron into gold.
It’s a sad fact, but I think the series is over. As above, the most recent edition was so awful that it’s clear that Activision has very little interest in it. Being a little blunter as well, the skating fad has gone. Yes, it is still popular, but not to the point that a game can be made from it at the moment. At least, not a competent one.
