Christmas is upon us. As such, as one final gesture to get us to part with more money we don’t have before the end of the year, his Holiness Pope Newell has offered us one last Steam sale.
Now, of course, we do not necessarily expect you to agree with this. We all have our own opinions, but then again, with the Steam sales and limited budgets, you might have some difficult choices to make. Hopefully, therefore, this list will help.
Before we begin, this is in no particular order. Something higher or lower doesn’t necessarily mean we’re ranking them.
Now, I understand that not everyone who did play RE7 enjoyed it and I can understand why. It was very different and in fairness not particularly long. That being said, the first playthrough is a fantastic experience and there’s enough to get you coming back for more. This is also a fantastic gateway game for speedrunning.
This is definitely worth a try in a brave new direction for the franchise, particularly for just £20.00 in the sales.
Ok, so the chances are that you might have already played The Witcher 3 and yes, its hardly recent, but if you didn’t play it, you missed a massive experience. Many consider this to be one of the finest games ever release.
Available in the store for just £13.99 and including all DLC, add-ons etc. for just £13.99 you are easily looking at a 200-hour+ game here.
I must confess, I am a little biased here as I am a massive fan of the Dark Souls series. While I do not believe the third game was the best in the series (if I’m honest, I preferred 1 & 2 a heck of a lot more) it is perhaps the most easily accessible and frankly, some of the gaming areas within look stunning.
For just £9.99, if you enjoy games with a challenge, this is definitely for you. Yes, this doesn’t include the DLC, but in my opinion, it’s not worth the extra.
Yes, I said 5, not 6 and at the risk of sounding stupid, I know which one is newer. What you are getting here, however, is the complete version of Civilisation 5, with all of its glorious add-ons. While Civilisation 6 is newer, Civ 5 is far more polished (from a gaming experience) in my gaming opinion.
For just £8.06, this could easily be one of your most played games ever. ‘Just one more turn before I go to bed…’
This again is hardly a recent title, but it is, without doubt, the best modern city builder game out there. Completely embarrassing EA as what Sim City should have been, Cities Skylines very excellent balances fun gameplay with reasonable deep mechanics. No one will feel over or underwhelmed with this.
With the standard version at £5.74 or the Complete Edition for £7.49, you can’t go wrong either way.
We have tried our best to pick a selection for all gamers and again, we stress and acknowledge these are not all new games. They are, however, all games which represent excellent value and in a completely unintended retrospect, are also games to which you could spend a LOT of time playing.
