Toshiba announced the launch of a 3TB 2.5-inch hard disk drive (MQ03ABB300), the industry’s largest capacity to date in this form factor. Utilizing perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, the new drive achieves 750GB per on each of the 4 platters. A drive perfect for situations where a lot of storage is needed, but the available space is limited.
The new drive doesn’t just impress with its capacity, it also consumes less power than the 2TB predecessor and is just as well suited for multi-drive home and SMB enclosures as laptops and notebooks. Sample shipments of the new MQ03ABB300 drive will begin in May.
