Toshiba Electronics announces their new solid state hybrid drive (SSHD) series with Toshiba’s 19nm second generation NAND flash memory (NAND). The new drive comes as 1TB 9.5mm drive for desktop systems and 500GB 7mm for laptops and notebooks.
The new generation merges the NAND controller function directly into the HDD controller chip to create a all-in-one system on a chip (SoC). It features everything you could want in defective block management, ECC (Error Correction Code), conversion of logical block address, and wear-leveling.
Sample shipments will begin February 2015.
