Toshiba announced the first TransferJet adapters for iOS devices as well as a second-generation of USB adapters for Windows and Android systems. TransferJet is a wireless close-proximity system to transfer files from one device to another at high speeds and without a cable. The physical layer transmission rate is 560 Mbps while the maximum data throughput is 375Mbps.
“As we increasingly are taking higher quality photos, videos and more, people need an easy way to share these very large files with their friends and family, or simply save them to their PC,” said Maciek Brzeski, Vice President, Branded Storage, Toshiba America. “Until now, there hasn’t been a simple, fast and affordable way to instantly transfer files between devices – TransferJet makes it easy.”
The extremely short transmission distance minimizes the potential for leakage of data without the need for difficult security measures or setup procedures. Users also have the option to register devices and enable TranferJet to recognize those specific devices only. As TransferJet radiates very low-power radio waves, it causes virtually no interference to other wireless systems and unlike Wi-Fi there is no impact on performance even if multiple users simultaneously use them nearby.
The new TransferJet adapters will be available for purchase in March 2015 for a $79.99 MSRP.
