Toshiba Introduces MD06ACA-V Surveillance Series HDDs

Solid-state drives may be the fastest storage options right now, but reliable platter drives are still in very high demand. Especially for those who need constant data writing such as for surveillance. Which is why Toshiba is announcing the new MD06ACA-V Surveillance Series hard drives for 24/7 use. These 3.5-inch units use SATA connectors with up to 6.0Gbit/s interface speed. The 10TB version actually has a slightly higher sustained max transfer speed than the 8TB or the 6TB version (237MB/s vs 230MB/s). Users have a choice between 6TB, 8TB and 10TB storage capacities. These drive capacities are necessary as surveillance footage gets better and better every day. Especially with higher resolution cameras which are data heavy.

Toshiba MD06ACA-V Features

The Toshiba MD06ACA-V has a 7200 RPM rotational speed with 256 MB buffer size. Each drive supports up to 64 HD camera streams. It even incorporates rotational vibration compensation technology with a rated annual workload of 180TB transferred. It has an MTTF of 1 million hours @ 40C, plus it has an operating temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. Which means it can withstand quite a bit more abuse than your standard desktop drive. Although it is not recommended to actually operate it beyond 60 degrees Celcius or it will significantly shorten the drive’s lifetime. Each drive comes with a 3-year limited warranty.
