Pricing
I could not find the Toshiba N300 listed in the US at the time of writing, but in the UK it is widely available. You can, for example, find it on Amazon for £218.99 as OEM drive or £269.94 as retail version. The drive listed in the chart below is the retail version.
Conclusion
Toshiba created a great NAS drive with their N300 series. It is a drive that comes with the right features and a great performance to match.
Toshiba packed all the features into the drive that you’ll want from NAS HDD. It is 24/7/365 certified with an 180TB per year workload rating. It is designed for systems with up to 8 drive bays which it will handle with ease thanks to the built-in RV and temperature sensors.
The 7200 RPM spindle speed and 128MB cache help the drive deliver a great performance that matches the ratings. The 210MB/s area is a great place for a 6TB drive and you get it at a fair price. A mechanical drive will naturally get a little slower as it fills up, simply because the mechanical parts have to move further from the start position. That’s basic physics and the same for all.
While the drive doesn’t top out any of our charts, it is up against some strong competition that’s mostly composed of larger capacity drives. But the N300 holds up well against them too.
