Tritton Detonator Xbox 360 Headset Review

The speakers them selves are covered with a bright orange fabric, sure no one is going to see this when your wearing them, but it definitely adds to the overall style of the set, the ear pads are durable and soft at the same time, a difficult combination to get right.  While they were a little uncomfortable at first, they do seem to take to the shape of your head and ears after a little use.

Each ear piece is mounted on a pivot which allows for minor adjustments, but both the padding and the pivot means that the ear cups fit flush to your head during use, keeping game noises in and are remarkably sound proof when it comes to blocking out the noise from your surroundings, this is a good and bad thing, but I’ll explain why in a moment.

You can also see in the picture below the microphone, which is fully detachable and again is built to last, it has a tough but flexible mount which allows you to adjust its angle to your preference, plus there is some give at the point where the microphone connects to the ear piece, allowing you to swivel the microphone away / towards your face.

The in-line remote is hard-wired to the cable that connect to the output source, but keeping with the tough theme it is also well built and designed, the buttons have a nice click response to them, everyone likes a button that makes a nice click! you’ll find headset mute, microphone mute, the monitor button on the face of it, a headphone jack on the bottom as well as separate game volume and chat volume wheels down the side.

The dual volume is another feature that isn’t that common on headsets, at least not within this price range, its a very welcome feature too, allowing you to dull down game sounds and listen to your friends while in an Xbox live party, or of course, turn your friends down so you can focus on the action, much better than just muting one or the other, or just handy if you have a loud mouthed friend.

The SVM allows you to hear the microphone through your own headset, while I’m not entirely convinced by this feature because of how it does its job, but I’ll explain more in the performance section.
