Tritton Kama PlayStation 4 / Vita Gaming Headset Review

Price
At just under £20 from a few major online retailers this is nothing short of a bargain, there are many options from 4Gamers, GioTech, Trust, etc. for this price range that will appeal to those on a budget, but none from a brand name that commands as much respect as MadCatz. I found the Tritton Kama available at Kikatek for just £19.95 and given that the next model up in the Tritton headset range will set you back around £35.90 (Tritton Kunai) it a huge saving for those that need a straightforward headset. In the US the Kama will set you back just $29.99 from Amazon.com and 27.72 Euro from Amazon.fr, making this a great value for money deal in almost any region.
Overview
I really like the Tritton Kama, it is far from perfect, but within this price bracket it’s nice to see a well-known brand name providing a quality, low-cost product that trims all the fat, but still gets all the basics right. There are a few short falls that I would like to see improved, but I would also expect that solving the minor issues would cause the price to increase. To put it blunt, at this price range, I really cannot complain.
The headset design doesn’t look like that of a budget headset and while the build quality could benefit from higher quality plastics, given that not everyone will like the glossy finish, it is again better than I expected. The microphone would benefit from being detachable so that you could use the headset as headphones, while having the option of a single 4-pole to dual 3-pole 3.5mm connectors would mean you could use it on PC as well as most any other audio device. It’s when you add such features that you push the price up and by that point you may as well buy the Tritton Kunai, which is effectively the premium edition of the Kama, for around £35 / $40 / 40 Euro.
If you need a headset exclusively for the PlayStation 4 / Vita and you’re on a tighter budget, then the Kama should be your first choice, as I doubt you will get anything better for this kind of money. If you can splash your budget a little I would still recommend the Tritton Kunai as it sounds a little better, has a nicer fit, a more versatile design and better build quality. If you’re fed up with the basic PlayStation headset and want something for casual use, or you’re wanting to try out your first ever gaming headset, then this is the perfect place to start for any gamer.

“MadCatz have trimmed all the fat, features and materials they can without sacrificing quality, leaving you with a back to basics headset that may not blow you away, but it will leave you and your wallet feeling very satisfied none the less. If you need something for online gaming, clan chat features, or maybe you just want to enjoy your games with a little privacy, the Tritton Kama has got you covered.”
Thank you MadCatz for providing us with this sample.
