TSMC Refuses to Manufacture Samsung’s Exynos Chips Over Trade Secret Concerns

TSMC has reportedly declined Samsung’s request to manufacture its high-end Exynos processors due to concerns about potential trade secret leaks. Samsung has faced challenges with its 3nm process and sought TSMC’s help to produce its processors, but the Taiwanese semiconductor giant has refused.
Reasons Behind TSMC’s Decision
Samsung’s 3nm GAA process is said to have low yield rates, pushing the company to seek external support. While TSMC seemed like an ideal partner, the company reportedly turned down the request, citing several reasons.
One key factor is TSMC’s full capacity at its advanced 2nm node, primarily allocated to loyal clients like Apple. Additionally, TSMC is concerned that working with Samsung could provide the South Korean tech giant with insights into its manufacturing expertise, something TSMC is unwilling to share.
Currently, there is no official information on flagship Samsung phones featuring Exynos processors in the near future. However, Samsung might surprise the market with announcements in upcoming releases.
