Price
The TteSports by Thermaltake Commander Keyboard and Mouse Combo is available from many popular online and brick and mortar retailers. I managed to find a good price from CCL Computers in the UK for just £22.22 + £2.99 delivery; that’s incredible value for money! I have seen them as low as £22 and as high as £30, so be sure to shop around for a great price. Readers in the US can pick one of from Newegg for an equally impressive $29.99.
Overview
I’m really impressed with how much value for money is on offer here. It’s hard to find a good keyboard and mouse in the bargains section, where you’ll often find cheap knockoffs that are simply not worth the money, even at super low prices. Sure, this offering from TteSports isn’t the high-end stuff that you might want, but let’s be honest, sometimes what’s in your wallet only goes so far. Having a trusted and recognisable brand name is no bad thing and there’s a great range of features packed on top of decent performance available here too.
Build quality is ok, it’s not amazing, it’s not bad, but it’s alright. Drop it on the floor a couple of times, you’re likely to crack something, but the best advice here is to not drop them. For a casual stay-at-home gamer, it’ll hold up just fine. If you’re prone to rage-quitting, maybe look for something more durable.
The keyboard performs really well, the keys are snappy and responsive thanks to their plunger switches. The only downside is that they keys are pretty noisy, easily on par with most mechanical keyboards. This isn’t a problem for me, I like the tactile feel and sound a clunky keyboard, but it could drive the person sitting next to you to madness; something to keep in mind.
The mouse is light, fast and accurate. It does tend to favour harder cloth gaming surfaces, so keep clear of super thick mouse mats, of you’ll find it may drag a little. The buttons are snappy and have a nice tactile click to them, making it great for gaming or day-to-day work.
Overall, a slightly above average setup, but at super low bargain prices. That’s a pretty good balance if you ask me and you’ll struggle to find much better for the same or less. There’s a bundle from Cooler Master of a similar price and spec and the Commander holds up well when compared with it, so it’s really down to you which one suits your tastes.
Pros
Cons
“Being on a tight budget isn’t fun, but that doesn’t mean to say you can’t have a lot of fun. If you need an affordable setup to get you going on your favourite PC games, you’ll love what the Commander Combo has to offer.”
