Turok Dinosaur Hunter
For many, Turok was one of the classic releases for the N64. I must confess, I never played it myself, but I did have friends who liked it. I was far too busy grinding the gold Chocobo on Final Fantasy 7 on my PlayStation 1.
Following a successful re-release on PC of Turok 1 and 2, there’s good news for Xbox One owners. In a report via Polygon, the games are coming to your console!
Xbox One
The release has certainly come as something of a surprise. There was hope for the future of Turok after being picked up by Nightdive (more on them later). An Xbox One release, while perhaps discussed, was not expected though.
It is mildly surprising that the games are not coming to the Nintendo Switch, but perhaps they will in time.
Nightdive
When I mentioned Nightdive, it might have rung a bell for you, and there’s a good reason. Nightdive is the company behind the recently shelved System Shock game which following a Kickstarter campaign has backers and fans likewise furious.
They might win some good graces back with this announcement, but I daresay the knives are still out for them.
In regards to the game itself, it should be noted that this is not an HD remake or remaster. This will be, similar to the PC version, more or less a direct port of the original.
The Future of Turok
The re-release might hold a promising future for a franchise which has been left to go as extinct as the antagonists. You would almost have thought that EA had bought the IP. It was an excellent game and something different when it came out, there are plenty of opportunities for it in the future.
I am glad to see it’s getting some much-needed attention again and hopefully we will be seeing more of our favorite dinosaur hunter in the future.
