Price
Priced at just £39.99/$60 from the Turtle Beach web store, the Ear Force Recon 60P Amplified Stereo Gaming Headset is pretty decent value for money. Can I find better sounding headsets for the same money? Yes. Can I find better-made headsets for the same money? Yes. However, when you start adding multi-format support into the mix, you’ll quickly realise that the 60P are competitive value for money.
Overview
There’s nothing remarkable about the 60P, which sounds like a bad thing to say, and while I guess it is a little, there’s nothing majorly wrong with it either. It’s a budget-friendly headset, which means it comes with very few features, average build quality and a fairly standard design. Of course, it is priced to reflect this, so it is hardly unjust.
The sound quality is pretty good, with a thumping bass and clear highs that make listening to music enjoyable, movies sound entertaining and you get drawn into the chaotic environments of your favourite games. Sennheiser these are not, but when it comes to enjoying your favourite media and chatting with friends while gaming, you’ll find the 60P can hold their own against the competition in this price range.
Multi-format support is a welcome feature and one that many users will be glad to have, as it means you only need one headset, and that’s a real cost saver in the long run. You can even use this on PC although you’ll need a Y-splitter 3.5mm cable if you want to use the microphone, although these can be picked up super cheap on sites like Amazon and eBay. It’s the PlayStation where the 60P are most at home, however, as they can benefit from the USB amp. The sound quality is good without it and perfectly suited to hooking up to your mobile device or mp3 player, but the AMP adds a lot more depth to the overall sound quality.
Pros

“If you’re a PlayStation 3 or 4 owner and you need a cost-effective gaming headset that has powerful drivers, the 60p are great value for money. However, if you’re looking to be blown away, headsets in the £60/$90+ Turtle Beach ranges are where you’ll get your kicks”
