Turtle Beach Elite Pro Wired PC Gaming Headset Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Turtle Beach Elite Pro Tournament Headset is available now for £169.99. Of course, that’s not an insignificant amount of money, but in terms of what you get for your investment, I think it’s fantastic value for money. A comparable headset from say, Astro, would come to around £250, and since I have been using the Astro equivalent daily myself for the last two years, I know it doesn’t have an adjustment system that’s as advanced as this one.

Overview

The latest headset from Turtle Beach is by far one of their best. It’s not even close to their most expensive either. Turtle Beach have a few £250 headsets for PC and consoles. They typically come with wireless modules and loads of built-in features, but they’re in no way suitable for eSports or competitive gaming in general. While not exactly lacking in features, the Pro Tournament feels very focused and easy to use.

Connectivity is Key

This headset does come with a powerful USB controller that delivers impressive audio performance and plug and play support. It’ll also give you access to the DTS Headphone X mode, and allow you to EQ your audio to suit your needs. However, it also comes with a handy 3.5mm cable. If you use a separate desktop amp, on-board audio, plug into a console controller, or even a mobile device, it still delivers great performance out of the box.

Comfortable All Night Long

I typically don’t wear my glasses while gaming, I solved that problem with a bigger 4K monitor. However, I don’t because I can’t use my headset comfortably with glasses on. The Pro solves this with its pressure relief system, and it does work very well; I’d expect to see this feature used on more headsets in the future. The oversized ear cups are great, and the large surface area that contacts with the side of your head balances the weight beautifully; the soft cloth layer helps a lot too.

Mighty Drivers!

The sound is something to behold on this headset, easily up there with the best when it comes to premium headsets. The response is nice and flat, giving true to source audio performance. Of course, these powerful drivers can handle big changes to the EQ, and you can really push that bass up if you need to. With features like Super Human Hearing, you can boost the audio to hear your enemies footsteps too. Either way, the drivers have the clarity to ensure you heard what you want to hear. The noise dampening design also helps you focus on the game, not the ambient noises around you.

Pros

  • Exceptional gaming performance
  • Powerful and EQ’able drivers
  • DTS Headphone X processing
  • USB and 3.5mm connectivity
  • Extremely comfortable
  • Glasses friendly design
  • Excellent noise suppression
  • Removable microphone
  • Detachable cables
  • Very good value for money (relative to performance and features)

Cons

  • Proprietary connector for audio cables
