Price

At £150 the PX4 is far from cheap and you’ll have to be someone with a healthy bank balance and also be someone who takes their gaming seriously to really want to invest this heavily in a headset of this value. That isn’t to say it isn’t worth it and when compared with rival brands such as Razor and Corsair the Turtle Beach offers competitive performance and features that make it a worthy purchase.

Overview

I’m always a little sceptical with gaming headsets, but the PX4 has really blown me away more than once this last few days. Personally I’m not a big fan of wireless technology as I find a wired solution almost always give the best sound quality overall, plus you don’t have any issues with recharging batteries on a wired set. However, the audio quality on the PX4 was faultless throughout all my tests, with movies, music, mobile and gaming sounding as good as you could hope for. Bass is thick and distortion free and there is plenty of detail to be found in the rest of the range. Clearly, the dual WiFi radio fitted to the headset is fantastic, and it may even be enough to make me break away from my own wired setup.

Battery life is great, I’ve had about 8-10 hours so far at mid-high volume and it’s still going strong. The light weight USB cable can easily be used to recharge the headset while gaming too and so long as you remember to plug it in every few days, you shouldn’t have any issues. The drivers are pretty powerful and there is a great bass response, but they’re not overly loud at max volume, this is no bad thing of course as the last thing you want to do is damage your ears, but they’re still loud enough to give your head a rattle when things get frantic in games like Battlefield 4.

People who take competitive gaming serious are going to love this headset, the surround sound features are great for finding a good balance and picking out details like other players footsteps instead of thumping bass, something that can prove a big advantage in multiplayer FPS gaming. The microphone is superb and it is rare that I think that of any headphone as they’re almost all identical these days. Also, the multiple audio levels are great for getting a balance between chat and game audio. They’re extremely comfortable even on my freakishly big head, and even after a few hours you don’t feel like your ears need a rest.

Overall a very enjoyable experience and while I admit the price is quite high, you do get rock solid performance from what I think is a great looking headset, although that last part is obviously subjective.
