Turtle Beach Recon 500 Multiplatform Headset Review

Turtle Beach is one of the biggest and oldest names in the business when it comes to gaming headsets. They’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember. It’s no surprise then that they have some of the best sounding headsets across multiple price points, from sub £50 models all the way up to £250! Their drivers have always been what gives them that “Turtle Beach Signature Sound” and it’s something I’ve been a fan of for a long time now. However, what if they were to tinker with their DNA, would it make them better, worse or simply just different? With their new 60mm Eclipse Dual Drivers, the Turtle Beach Recon 500 is the new king of the Recon range. Not to be confused with the Turtle Beach 500 mouse, Impact 500 Keyboard, or Stealth 500X headset, but since those products are 1) 5-6 years old and 2) discontinued, I don’t think we’ll struggle too much.

Turtle Beach Recon 500

There are three key features which define the Turtle Beach Recon 500 headset. The new Turtle Beach 60mm Eclipse Dual Drivers, the AccuTune Precision Engineered Earcup Design and the Pro-Level TruSpeak Microphone. If they’re successful, I expect their new designs will carry Turtle Beach through the next few years. They generally only roll out designs they’re confident in. If anything, they remind me of the Porsche 911, revising and steadily improving over the years, rather than constantly trying to reinvent the range; clearly, it’s worked well for them.
