The Turtle Beach Stealth 520 PlayStation and Mobile headset (and PC since we got it working there with no issues) is available directly from Turtle Beach for $129 in the US, and £89.99 in the UK. Just aware, that many other retailers in the UK seem to have it for £129.99, so easily better to get it direct from Turtle Beach.
Overview
I must admit, I misjudged this headset when it arrived in the office, I just marked it off as a fairly mid-range console headset, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. The appearance can be a little bit to blame for that, as most Turtle Beach headsets look almost identical bar a few minor details, which isn’t a bad thing, but it threw me off a little.
The 50mm drivers backed up with a powerful built-in AMP, DTS Headphone:X and impressive EQ settings that really make beneficial changes to the sound, the Stealth 520 sounds absolutely brilliant. While gaming or watching movies, you’ll enjoy very impressive surround sound processing, backed up by tremendous bass on tap should you desire it, it’s a real bone shaker at high volumes and I must admit, you’re unlikely to ever need to max out the volume dial unless you want to go deaf. Music sounds great too, and it seems with a quick tap of the EQ button, you’ll find the sound you need for any scenario.
The microphone is pretty decent, bright and clear with good sensitivity, it picks up a little background noise, but you can adjust its output to minimise that as needed. The microphone monitoring is handy too, as it means you won’t find yourself shouting over the headphones, as is often a problem with cheaper headsets.
The buttons on the side of the headset are nicely located and easy to find without looking, allowing quick volume and profile changes to be done with minimal effort. Of course, the wireless tech is the real star of the show here, as it works flawlessly, and with a battery that can do up to 15 hours, we got 12 hours, but we were ragging the volume pretty high for the most part, you’re unlikely to reach for the USB cable mid-game if you charge it overnight.
The build quality is solid, the design looks simple and clean, the microphone is detachable, and as an added bonus it’ll work on any 3.5mm compatible device thanks to the included cable, and the USB dongle worked flawlessly on Windows 10 too!
