Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter last month, there has certainly been a lot of hyperbole and hysteria surrounding the move. Admittedly, this has mostly come from celebrities crying about the ‘death of social media’ while seemingly choosing to ignore the fact that Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, and the vast majority of other platforms are also owned by billionaires will less than pristine reputations.
With user rates on the up, however, despite what you may think about Elon Musk, Twitter has never been more popular.
In one of the first major shakeups to the platform, however, Elon Musk recently confirmed that in order to reduce bloat and general user inconvenience on the platform, they’d shut down a number of microservices with Elon himself stating that more than 80% of them were pretty much useless!
It seems though that this has led to a somewhat embarrassing faux pas as one of those that was actually needed was the Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) system. – And with this shutdown, well… It’s led to a lot of people being unable to access their accounts! – Whoopsie!
Now, the chances are that the fact majority of you will likely not notice this problem as it does come with two rather key factors. Firstly, you need to have 2FA activated on your account. Secondly, to encounter you have to actually log out for you to, you know, be required to enter your 2FA to get back in. – Since the services were shut down, however, users have reported that despite getting prompted to enter their code to reaccess their account, nothing is being sent!
We do, of course, expect this issue to be fixed imminently. In fact, the chances are that by the time you read this the problem has already been resolved. – I guess, if nothing else though, Elon has learned a valuable lesson that sometimes when something isn’t broken, you shouldn’t attempt to fix it!
