Twitter surpasses 100 million active users

Twitter has announced that the website now has over 100 million active users which is a huge achievement. However, to put that into a comparable context Facebook has 750 million active users but both share something in common: that 50% of active users log in at least once a day.
Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo said that the Twitter website had reported an 82% increase in active users since the start of 2011 which is nearly a twofold increase. Although there are no plans afoot currently to make Twitter a public company the CEO did reveal Twitter was looking to make a rapid expansion and added this will probably be done through increasing the amount of adverts or what he called “promoted tweets” which would be shown relative to the people and companies users have been following.
