Two Men Fall off a Bluff While Playing Pokemon GO

Yesterday we told you about a driver in New York who actually hit a tree because he was playing Pokemon GO while driving, and now it looks like the game has caused another accident, this time around in Encinitas. Two men recently had to be taken to the Scripps La Jolla Trauma Center after they were rescued by a team of firefighters and Encinitas lifeguards from a bluff around E Street and a beach below. The first man was discovered on the beach a bit after 1 p.m., and while the lifeguards were tending to him, they saw the second man nearby on the side of the bluff. Apparently, the two men were playing Pokemon GO on their smartphones, and they fell because they were trying to catch some of these digital creatures and had gone around safety railings protecting the 75-100ft drop to catch “prizes”.
We don’t know exactly what age these men are, but we do know that the one on the bluff had to be rescued by firefighters using ropes and harnesses. Fortunately, the two Pokemon GO players sustained only moderate injuries, and none of the firefighters and lifeguards were hurt. Pokemon GO was released by Nintendo as a free app earlier this month, and it quickly became the cause of various accidents. People should really pay more attention when playing this game, otherwise it’s probably safe to assume that these incidents will keep on happening.
