Two Point Hospital – ‘Successor’ To Theme Hospital Announced

Two Point Hospital
There are many enigmas in gaming, but one of the biggest headscratchers has been why Theme Hospital never got a sequel. Well, the fact that EA acquired the developers (Bullfrog) studio might have something to do with that. Even so, it was yet another example of EA letting a major and popular IP die.
Well, we’ve only had to wait 20 years, but its finally confirmed. Theme Hospital 2 is (sort of) on the way.
Why sort of? Well, because EA is nothing to do with it and as such, for very terse legal reasons, it certainly isn’t going to be called Theme Hospital 2.
We reported a short while ago how Sega and the original creators of Theme Hospital had come together. In addition, another major hint was the discovery that ‘Two Point Hospital’ had been copyrighted. Well, in a report via DSOGaming, we can finally confirm Two Point Hospital, the spiritual successor to Theme Hospital is on the way!
What do we think of it?
Well, initial screenshots look promising. In addition, the fact that EA is nothing to do with this is certainly another major plus. The fact that they have the original creators of Theme Hospital onboard though (who also had a hand in many excellent pre-EA killing franchises) is the cherry on the cake.
John Clark, Executive VP of Publishing for SEGA Europe has said: “We’re delighted to finally announce the fruits of our partnership with Two Point Studios and reveal Two Point Hospital to the world. We’re committed to finding and working with the best new studios. Ones that fit with SEGA’s ethos to deliver new IP with strong franchise potential. Two Point Studios’ vision for Two Point Hospital and their ambitions for it fit perfectly with that notion. We look forward to releasing their game later this year.”
Indications suggest that they hope to release Two Point Hospital before the end of 2018. While that does seem excellent news, it’s certainly a lot quicker than I anticipated.
While Theme Hospital sets the bar pretty high, the 20 years wait for a sequel means that fans will perhaps be happy just to have anything.
