U.K. Court rules Motorola’s patent for synchronizing message statuses as invalid

A few days ago, Microsoft won a case filed against Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. Judge Richard Arnold made a decision that Motorola’s patent for technology for synchronizing message statuses across multiple device is “invalid” and should be revoked. The trial between the two companies lasted for a week.

Judge Arnold also added that some of the patents add nothing inventive in his view.

Motorola and Microsoft are having legal battles over patents for Smartphone and Xbox gaming software in both U.S. and Germany over the years.

If the patent owned by Motorola was declared valid, Microsoft’s Live messenger service and Exchange ActiveSync, which lets consumers to sync email across multiple devices would be affected and Microsoft would be facing serious charges of violating intellectual property.
