According to VentureBeat, handset unlocking in the USA is on the rise quite quickly. This comes despite the fact phone unlocking was made illegal in the USA around5 months ago. The figures of one unlocking site who servers U.S customers, Mobile Unlocked, stated that the number of requests from U.S Citizens to unlock phones hand increased by a staggering 71%:
“We have actually seen a rise in the quantity of phones unlocked by US customers,” said Darren Kingman of Mobile Unlocked, a UK-based site for unlocking your phone remotely. “In fact sales have increased by 71 percent.”
Additionally such high interest is also matched by consistently high interest in search terms such as “unlock a phone” on Google. The U.S White House has already agreed with a petition to make phone unlocking legal again and the legislation (Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act ) is likely to pass comfortably through Congress, though it could take a couple of more months before the new law is finalised.
