Uber Drones Showing Billboards to Commuters Stuck in Traffic

You’re sitting in your car, fed up with the futility of your daily commute and being just one part in the endless puzzle that is rush hour traffic. All of a sudden, an alien invasion of attack drones swoop down on your car! OK, perhaps not, but I can’t imagine a lot of people feel much respite in the fact these drones are buzzing around right above their cars berating them about Uber.

The new sign-toting drones say “Driving by yourself?” and “This is why you can never see the volcanoes.” A remark to the thick smog in Mexico City, which could be partially blamed on the heavy traffic in the area.

The advertisements were for UberPOOL, as the company looks to move into Latin America and promote their car sharing features. Admittedly, the Uber system and car sharing with UberPOOL could help reduce traffic, but I doubt it would make a noticeable difference unless a huge number of people did it. However, I’m not sure drones are the best way to go about it, and it’s more likely to cause distractions for drivers than want them to sign up to their service.
