Recently during Ubisoft earnings call the decision to cancel Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland was made and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. It may be too optimistic to think that they might be learning their lesson and trying to make more new and original games but this decision was probably made because almost nobody wants this game.
What makes this change quite surprising is that the game was quite far into development, even having several beta periods, giving players plenty of time to check out the multiplayer game. Since those betas ended, Ubisoft went radio silent, and it’s highly likely the feedback they received wasn’t good.
The cancellation was due to Ubisoft’s “increased selectivity of its investments,” becoming more picky about where they spend their money. The games listed to benefit from Heartland’s cancellation were Rainbow Six and XDefiant.
On the flip side of the earnings call, Ubisoft has confirmed its commitment to three upcoming titles: Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and XDefiant. All of these games will be coming out during 2024-2025, and not just the free-to-play games. Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence will also be coming out this year.
Overall, I don’t think this earnings call was nearly as bad as EA’s unless you were excited for Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland.
