Ubisoft Lays Off 45 Employees In U.S.

Ubisoft, the renowned video game publisher behind titles like Assassin’s Creed, has laid off 45 employees across its U.S. offices. The layoffs affect staff in Ubisoft’s San Francisco location and Red Storm Entertainment in Cary, North Carolina. This decision follows a wave of industry-wide job cuts and is part of the company’s ongoing restructuring efforts.

Reason for Layoffs

A spokesperson from Ubisoft confirmed the layoffs, stating, “Yesterday Ubisoft San Francisco and Red Storm Entertainment informed their teams of a restructuring that resulted in 45 employees leaving Ubisoft.” The company explained that the move was essential to align the studios with future business and development goals. Ubisoft has promised severance packages and career assistance to those affected by the layoffs, though specific details were not provided.

The layoffs come shortly after Ubisoft canceled the development of The Division: Heartland, a free-to-play mobile title that Red Storm was working on. Ubisoft’s San Francisco office is currently developing XDefiant, a free-to-play shooter, and Rocksmith+. These layoffs are not an isolated incident, as Ubisoft had previously laid off employees in multiple waves last year, part of a broader trend of job cuts in the gaming industry.
