Ubisoft Sactions 19K Accounts Due to “Fraudulent Exploit”

Ubisoft, with an exploitable bug in one of their platforms, what a bloody shock. Half the time a bit of faulty code from Ubisoft is pretty much what you pay for, but this one seems to be a bigger problem for them. As in, it’s likely costing them money and thus got their attention. Ubisoft says it has sanctioned a staggering 19,000 player accounts that were found using a “fraudulent exploit.” This is wording akin to when Jeremy Clarkson got in a Fracas, but whatever.

Ubisoft gets a lot of stick for bugs, and rightly so, but the developer of Rainbow Six Siege, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and The Division originally claimed around 12,000 accounts would be sanctioned, but as you can see in a tweet from @UbisoftSupport that number is now 19,000.

“Recently we have identified accounts making use of a fraudulent exploit within our titles,” Ubisoft says. “Ubisoft has a zero tolerance policy against fraudulent practices as per our code of conduct. As a result, we will be applying account level sanctions on the nearly 19k accounts involved.”

Fraudulent Exploit

What’s really strange, is we still don’t bloody know what this is about either, so if you’ve been banned today and you know you’ve been doing something naughty, I’d love to hear your side of the story, seriously! However, a lot of players on the Ubisoft subreddit are reporting that they’ve been receiving two-factor verification codes to their email addresses, one person seems to get a LOT of them! This suggests that the exploit could be to do with breaking into accounts that don’t have 2FA, but again, I’m waiting for confirmation from Ubisoft PR on this one.
