Ubuntu 13.04 “Raring Ringtail” Out Now

The latest edition of one of the most popular Linus distros have just been released, Ubuntu 13.04, code named Raring Ringtail (where do they come up with these names?) can now be downloaded from the official website. The new edition of Ubuntu offers up a few new features and performance tweaks over the last release, most notably are the dramatic graphical performance improvements.

Ubuntu is well known to be kept up to date and constantly tweaked and re-freshed, seemingly getting forever better with each iteration and 13.04 is no exception, the developers are going as far as to say it is the fastest and most visually polished build to date, something they’re clearly proud of after spending a lot of time tuning performance for lightweight systems in preparation of Ubuntu coming to a wider range of mobile devices in the very near future.

Of course if they can make Linux run faster on light weight systems, as well as a reduced memory footprint for all system, those performance gains are going to be multiplied for high performance systems and there should be benefits right across the board here, which is of course good news for anyone who uses the OS.

“This release also illustrates Ubuntu’s ongoing commitment to quality and dependability. Our kaizen approach to development as well as community engagement result in a high quality alternative for people worldwide.” “This release, our 17th on a regular cadence, meets the needs of enterprises, organizations, governments and communities looking for a secure and intuitive computing experience.” – Jane Silber, CEO at Canonical.
