Ultrabook production cut

Key suppliers of Intel’s Ultrabooks have cut plans for more production ahead of uncertainty about both global economic conditions and the viability of the product. Digitimes is reporting that Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba and ASUS are limiting the initial shipments to below 50,000 units. Those vendors are due to start shipping later this month. Intel is hosting a conference next month to try and generate more enthusiasm amongst its partners but it may have trouble doing this. If you don’t remember a few weeks back Intel was criticised by its partners for not lowering CPU prices which was causing the Ultrabook production process to be too expensive and now it would appear that decision has backfired.

Intel releases the Ultrabook specifications back in May and these Ultrabooks were supposed to compete with Tablets with their ultra thin design and improved battery life. However, it would appear the Ultrabook is set to fail before it starts unless Intel cuts costs for its partners. Keep following this story as we will bring you news on the outcome of the upcoming Intel conference about Ultrabooks.
