If you enjoyed games such as Diablo III, Torchlight II or The Adventures of Van Helsing, then you’ll probably want to have a look at Umbra – an isometric view open-world action-RPG that’s being developed by SolarFall Games. Based on Crytek’s CRYENGINE, the hack n slash game now has a campaign on Kickstarter, which means that fans of the genre can contribute directly to the title’s development. The team over at SolarFall Games hopes to raise $225,000 in 30 days, and they have managed to raise $10,000 at the time of writing.
Apart from its eye-catching graphics and familiar game mechanics, Umbra also boasts a unique feature called Apocalyptic Form, which involves some form of shapeshifting and some deep character customization options.
“You’re free to mold your character thanks to a deep and rich customization system. And thanks to our complex crafting mini-game and our housing module you will be able to make your adventure feel as YOUR adventure”
Umbra’s most important highlights include an open world that rewards exploration and experimentation, free character development (rage, mana and stamina are always available), the Apocalyptic Form, plenty of loot, semi-procedural weapons, an advanced crafting mini-game, destructible environments, housing and a Kythera AI system. The player could also transform a part of his house into a dungeon and challenge another player to survive its dangers. This feature and a multiplayer mode are both a part of a stretch goal.
