Unigine Releases New Superposition Benchmark

Unigine, while creators of the Unigine game engine, are more well-known for their suite of benchmarks. Heaven and Valley have been staples of the DX11 benchmarking scene and still remain popular to this day. However, it’s time for something new as its been 4 years since Valley was released and we’ve come a long way since then. Today, Unigine is launching their new Superposition benchmark.

Built on their new Unigine 2 game engine, the new benchmark is compatible with both Windows and Linux platforms. It supports both current DirectX API as well as OpenGL 4.5. Vulkan support is expected to be added in at a later point in time. Given the VR focus these days at Unigine, it is no surprise that there is a special VR mode support for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Just like Valley, there are various preset levels of performance benchmarking. The option to tweak settings manually is also retained as well, with up yo 8K textures being pushed. In a sign that they know their market,  the Superposition benchmark is not only marketed as a GPU benchmark but also as GPU stress tester. In a departure from most benchmarks, there is also an interactive mode which can be further customised to ensure a non-standard non-synthetic benchmark.
