Unsurprisingly, Palworld’s Pokémon Mod Got Taken Down By Nintendo

We all saw it coming, the second ToastedShoes shared the Pokémon mod for smash hit Palworld, Nintendo will be on that like fly on a fresh log. That is exactly what happened and less than 24 hours after sharing the mod on Twitter, it was taken down by Nintendo’s lawyers.

No Pokémon Mods For Palworld

The Australian Youtuber who was behind sharing the Pokémon mod, recently found the video shared on Twitter teasing the mod to have been hit by a strike from Nintendo’s lawyers, really couldn’t have seen that coming, its very surprising from Nintendo to do such a thing. Now I’m not sure the details on the mod itself, I heard it was being sold on his patreon, which of course is a big no no for this type of thing, however I can’t verify that information so take it with a grain of salt.

The problem of Pokémon mods doesn’t just exist for Toasted, as Nexus Mods has stated that they aren’t comfortable hosting said mods due to the risks involved. PCGamesN.com recently asked NexusMods about their position and they responded with the following:

“We do think that adding Pokemon content to Palworld is a very cool idea and we understand why people would want such a thing. However, we’re not comfortable hosting this content,” Nexus Mods community lead Mathew Elliott says in a statement sent to PCGamesN.

“As you may know, Nintendo (who jointly own the Pokémon franchise) has a consistent record of mercilessly submitting legal challenges, DMCAs, and takedowns against fan-made content. Given Palworld’s similarity to the Pokémon franchise as a base game, hosting content that adds copyrighted characters or assets into the game is almost certainly going to put us at risk of legal action.”

This is a fair and safe position to take, as Nintendo are very merciless with their DMCA takedowns though fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your view of the game, Palworld itself is likely safe from Nintendo. Via GamesRadar, a lawyer by the name of Richard Hoeg responded to Toasted’s Pokemon mod stating that it is likely infringing, but it does a good job of showing how different Palworld actually is to Pokémon. Additionally, a friend of mine pointed out that Nintendo likely would’ve shut down the project in its early stages if it were infringing upon its copyright as they have done with many fan projects.

Nintendo may be able to remove the Pokémon mods, but one thing they can’t remove from Palworld is the inevitability of nude mods, which as of today on Nexusmods, there are three. Some people really just can’t play a game without thinking about boobs. Aside the nude mods, there are some nice improvement mods such as FOV changes, increased durability, no stamina flying costs, and some performance mods for low end users.
