Following on the heels of the critically acclaimed Crosshair series of motherboards, Asus has unveiled the successor of the Republic of Gamers series. Like the previous generations of RoG boards, the Crosshair III is expected to be bundled with a SupremeFX audio card, external LCD status display, and the ever useful onboard power/reset/CMOS clear buttons.
In the past, Asus has typically reserved it’s high-end Crosshair platform for NForce chipsets. This time around they are bringing forth the AMD 790FX chipset coupled with a SB750 southbridge. The Crosshair III is an AM3 based board which of course will support fast DDR3 memory. This new offering also comes with an 8+2 phase power supply design, a pair of PCIe X16 slots with an additional three PCIe X1 interfaces, and a mature PCI slot to support any of your older devices. Five SATA 3.0 Gbps ports will provide for all your storage needs with an additional external eSATA rounding out your hard drive choices.
As with most unofficial product launches, there are few details regarding price or launch date. However, many sites expect the Crosshair III Formula to be fully unveiled at ComputeX 2009 in June. Anticipate the price to be above the $200 mark when this finally becomes available.
