Up to 50 new ultrabooks expected at CES

The Consumer Electronics Association is predicting the launch of between 30 to 50 ultrabooks at the upcoming CES in January.

Intel CEO Paul Otellini is scheduled to make a keynote speech in Las Vegas during a conference where he is expected to announce the new and more powerful 22 nanometer Ivy Bridge processor, which, as the rumour goes, could be the brain of the Ultrabooks to be launched during the show.

While few are present on the market at the moment, Ultrabooks received great support, people were excited about them, but the numbers don’t match, as a matter of fact the sales for the early Ultrabooks are one third of what was expected.

This leaves us wondering whether the upcoming models will be a hit or more of a miss. One example that we’ve noted are tablets. Last year, CES saw the launch of over 100 tablets, all obviously aiming Apple’s successful iPad, but as we see today, few have made it.

While we can’t predict the future, the numbers provided cannot be disregarded even though various reasons could be the ‘failure’ of the Ultrabooks, but the rumours that Apple is working on another product of their own certainly suggest they may prepare to strike against the opposition to their successful Macbook Air lineup.

In the end, the choice only comes down to one person, the costumer, and only by capturing its interests will a company achieve a high selling point.
