Upcoming ‘Visage’ in VR is Quite Possibly the Scariest Horror Game in History

While most praise Virtual Reality gaming for its unparalleled immersion, some of those people might not be singing the same tune once they have played upcoming game Visage because of the psychological trauma they will endure. The game is another title vying to be the spiritual successor to Konami’s P.T., a playable teaser for Silent Hills, and so far it looks like it is taking the same first-person psychological horror approach but will expand upon its features.

The game is being developed by SadSquare Studio and recently launched a Kickstarter campaign goal which it quickly reached. Over 3,214 backers have pledged over $120,129 CAD (£71,850) to make the game which is quite low by today’s standards, but Quebec-based SadSquare Studio says that this is more than enough to create the project because they have a small, but dedicated team that are also big fans of the horror genre.

As proof of this passion, despite not reaching the $160,000 CAD stretch goal (original campaign funding required only $35,000 CAD), SadSquare Studios is actually going to be keeping some of their promises meant for the higher tier of the campaign funding including having multiple endings  and additional characters. The first two stretch goals targetted for a console release and VR playability which it has met.

Visage is built on the Unreal 4 engine which allows it to create very realistic environments which really help heighten the anxiety while playing. A similar P.T. inspired first-person survival horror game called “Allison Road” was set to launch last year but was cancelled in June. An announcement was made in August 2016 that it was to resume development under a different studio but there has been no announcements after. Since the development of that game seems to be in limbo, all eyes are on Visage which seems to be on track for release soon. Initial launch date was set for January 2017 but SadSquare has since delayed it with additional upgrades to the sound, game modes and story.
