Over the weeks and days since the massive hack upon Sony Pictures (that has resulted in a major motion picture being cancelled), many have tried to understand who exactly is behind the attack. Most have suggested North Korea, while a number have suggested it could be someone else.
Well now an official source says that the US government believes that North Korea was indeed behind the intrusion into Sony Pictures computer systems. “We have found linkage to the North Korean government,” said the source to NBC News.
The officials reportedly said that they believe the hack was not directly carried out by the North Koreans, but was performed by hackers working on their behalf.
This is the first official link to North Korea, meaning that this devastating attack could potentially be seen as an “act of war”.
